| Construction Details The hull is strip planked 1 1/4" yellow cypress (Hinoki, very similar to Port Oxford yellow cedar), glued and stainless steel edge- nailed. All frames (19" centers) and timbers are laminated Keyaki (a very rot-resistant Japanese hardwood). Floors, deck beams and shelf clamps are sawn yellow cypress. Cabin soles are 1/2" teak planks inlaid with maple strips on 1" solid core ply. All hull fastenings are copper rivets and the keel bolts are stainless steel. Amber Sky was built to the highest standards with the best wooden boatbuilding materials available (the oldest wooden building on earth, a 1300 year-old temple in Japan, is constructed of Hinoki).
